FEATURED SPEAKERS:
Post Workflow on Spike Jonze’s ‘HER’ & What’s Next with Avid Media Composer featuring Matt Feury of Avid and Guillaume Aubuchon of DigitalFilm Tree
Matt Feury of Avid in conversation with the editors and assistant editors of ‘STAR WARS: EPISODE 7’ at IBC
We are thrilled to have with us Matt Feury of Avid, who will give a sneak preview of the highly anticipated upcoming update to Media Composer! This new update features; 2K/4K/UHD project types, native 4K editing and monitoring, 4K mastering and enhanced LUT and CDL capabilities.
And joining Matt in conversation on editing with Avid is Guillaume Aubuchon of DigitalFilm Tree, who will talk about the workflows he’s designed for shows like NCIS: Los Angeles and Turner’s upcoming show, “Unreal”. He’ll also discuss DFT’s role in Spike Jonze’s, ‘HER‘ and demonstrate how Avid’s browser-based Media Central | UX makes it easy for his clients to remotely edit, review and approve their projects.
DigitalFilm Tree were the brains behind getting Final Cut Pro to work for ‘COLD MOUNTAIN,’ “Scrubs” and “Nip Tuck” and it’s a joy to have the opportunity to spend an evening in good conversation with both Matt and Guillaume.
BRING YOUR QUESTIONS! This is a rare opportunity to connect with Avid
Biggest trends in the industry right now are cloud computing and 4K editorial.
· While 4K mastering and distribution is slowly on the rise, high-res acquisition has already taken over as the norm for source material.
· DigitalFilm Tree has been out in front of both. Providing 4K solutions for clients before any industry leaders were ready to trumpet their 4K offerings for editorial
· DFT has also been a pioneer in cloud computing, with Guillaume developing remote editorial workflows for films and tv shows, using Avid’s Interplay Production tools in conjunction with open source storage and computing solutions.
· At IBC, Avid rolled out Resolution Independence, an end-to-end workflow for high-res editorial that allows content creators make the move to 4K without having to sacrifice performance or collaboration, all while leveraging their existing storage, computing and network infrastructure
ABOUT MATT FEURY
In Matt’s words: “As Director of Marketing for Pro Video, it’s my job to lead the marketing strategy of Avid’s video editing systems and their related storage and infrastructure solutions. A big part of my job, and certainly my favorite, is the creation of content that educates and inspires existing and potential customers. A prime example of this is our podcast The Rough Cut. It’s given me the opportunity to connect future filmmakers with industry pro’s such as Morgan Spurlock, Kevin Smith, Doug Liman and Ben Affleck. Since joining Avid in 1994 I’ve had the good fortune to meet and collaborate with customers from all over the world, in every kind of project. And I’m deeply grateful to all of them for letting me be a part of their journey.”

SHOW & TELL: ‘The Paper Lantern Film Project‘ featuring filmmaker Barry Frechette
Filmmaker Barry Frechette joins us to share with us his documentary, ‘The Paper Lantern Film Project,’ a true story of Normand Brissette of Lowell, MA, an American POW on the ground in Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945, and Shigeaki Mori, the Japanese man who has fought for his legacy.
ABOUT BARRY FRECHETTE
In Barry’s own words: “I’m an ad guy and I’ve grown up in production. TV ads, videos, websites. All that stuff. But what I really love is helping people make things. When I came across this story, I knew that this was something that really needed to be told. That is why I have jumped in with both feet. The people in the production community and ad community here in Boston have been so incredible thus far. I am very lucky to be around these people. I know it sounds lame to say it, but I am still in this business because of the caliber of the people it attracts.
I live just north of Boston, in Billerica, Massachusetts. The real joy in my life is my family. “
