Culture Shock! An ArtFront Project Event

Join us for “Culture Shock!” at Jupiter Hall and explore the dissonance, diversity and cultural integration of Manchester, New Hampshire’s lively and cosmopolitan community.

Culture Shock! An ArtFront Project Event
Thursday – Saturday, October 12-14th, 6-9pm
Jupiter Hall, 89 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03101

Manchester’s Claudia Rippee will be showing her collection of poignant graffiti photographs. These crisp and riveting images will be juxtaposed against Patrick McCay’s vivid, textural paintings. Added to the mix will be the haunting faces created by photographer Tim Donovan. These remarkable images are borrowed from his Phantasmagoric portfolio. Rounding out the show will be sculptural elements created by installation artist Erin Sweeney. Erin’s work will be drawn from her mixed media installation “How To Build A Community” along with her storyteller sculptures. When combined, this work will challenge and inform preconceptions about the social, cultural and ethnic diversity within The Queen City.

Complimenting the art on the walls will be a steady but unexpected flow of dance and music. On the 12th and 13thWisty Andres, a classically trained contemporary dancer and Theo Marty, a dancer/drummer trained in several West African traditions will improvise together. The results will unwind in an entirely original, ephemeral and personal dance. Deo Mwano and Movement From Above will bring their inimitable blend of hip hop and jazz fusion to the event on the 13th. Boston based Lorraine Chapman will return again with another rendition The Suit Lady character who’ll be a running persona in all Art Front events. She’s a surprise guest who reveals her own experience of the art and evening.
