THURSDAY, AUGUST 23 BOSCPUG AT JUPITER HALL:

Jupiter Hall presents RETROSPECTIVE, a multiple genre show featuring Award winning fashion and beauty photographer Ron Ranere and several of Ron’s long term photography projects:
DANCE OF LIGHT, WHISPERING NUDES, FASHION, LIQUID LIGHT

Liquid Light: Models moving draped with light, choreographed to capture the flow of color. The image comes up on the monitor in an otherwise dark studio. It’s an amazing experience, moving photography into a whole new level of art.

What the BOSTON ART REVIEW had to say about Liquid Light:
“Ron’s Liquid Light work represents an amalgamation of different, yet related, ideas. In some, the light as clothing concept is retained. In others, light has become an abstraction and the bodies that created them are no longer visible. One can tell that the experiment has just begun.”

OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, AUGUST 23 5-8PM • Free, Open to Public
Includes music and refreshments and your opportunity to meet and interact with Ron Ranere

Exhibit runs August 23 thru September 15

RON WILL ALSO CONDUCT PHOTO WORKSHOPS AND PHOT SHOOTS THROUGHOUT THE EXHIBIT

ABOUT RON RANERE
Fast forward to the digital age.
The creative process has been part of my life since childhood. At 9 years old I sold Christmas cards to get my first camera, a plastic body with a plastic lens that took 120 film; one step up from a shoe box with a hole in it. From that day, I became totally enamored with making images instead of taking pictures.During high school it came time to decide what I wanted to do. I had been working at a part time job as an office building cleaner. My floors were an Architect’s office. I always talked with the architects, fascinated by their creative process and how they saw the world. I attended Boston Architectural College and in addition to studying architecture I took electives in photography.

While working in architecture, I continued to do photography both for work and as a hobby. At 26 I decided to take a break from architecture and open Positive Image Photography (later re-branded to Ron Ranere Photography). Back then it was all commercial work without a specialty; shooting anything an art director would hire me to shoot. Over the years fashion and beauty became my specialty. I also continued my architectural career with my own firm, Ranere Associates. My architectural training completely influences my photography. Goethe said: “architecture is music frozen in time”, a philosophy I also apply to photography experimenting with the fluid aspects of light to create unique designs. About 6 years ago, while doing a shoot for a fashion designer I had the idea of using rope light as part of a shoot. “Liquid Light” was born. I began really experimenting with light art. Since I was so comfortable working with models it seemed like a natural progression to combine different light sources with models. I started sketching light patterns to create art. I learned that I could drape a model with fiber optic cable to create different forms by turning off the studio lights and choreographing the models movement while shooting long exposures. After a few shoots and trial and error attempts I got good at creating the form I imagined. That led to my most current project: Lighting dancers from behind to create a light pattern that complements their dance pose. I’m always thinking beyond the shot to the visceral impact on the viewer, hoping that the image will make their heart skip a beat.
