#MONIFF 2015 MONADNOCK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL: LAIN BARAKAT

copy-cropped-moniff_logo_monadnock_independent_film_festival1

We’re excited to have indie film producer and MONIFF Executive Director LAINA BARAKAT join us for a preview of the 2015 Monadnock International Film Festival, taking place in Keene, New Hampshire April 16-18, 2015.

MONIFF honors cinema as the modern campfire, shining a light on compelling stories, international filmmakers and engaged audiences, gathered around our love of film. MONIFF is where Artist and Audience Are One.

**NOTE: We will be making a special announcement about our April BOSCPUG related to MONIFF this Thursday!**

MONIFF was created through a collaboration of artists, local filmmakers and producers, community leaders from local non-profits, universities and colleges, social service agencies, and businesses. MONIFF’s Board of Directors draws from a diverse group of individuals from throughout the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire.

The original steering committee began meeting in late 2009 to explore creating a film festival in southwestern New Hampshire, drawing from a long tradition of artists and filmmakers making this region their home. In June of 2011, the Monadnock International Film Festival partnered with Arts Alive! as its fiscal agent and began planning its first festival.

In 2012, Executive Director Laina Barakat joined the MONIFF team and launched the 2013 film festival. In the fall of 2013, MONIFF became a 501©3 Non-profit and welcomed Program Director Aaron Wiederspahn who created the Screenwriting in the Schools program.

laina_barakat_heaadshotABOUT LAINA BARAKAT
Laina Barakat is an independent film Producer, committed to telling stories of grace and light, revealing themselves in dark and at times desperate worlds. Joining the company for the theatrical release and distribution of the their first feature film, ‘THE SENSATION OF SIGHT,’ starring Academy Award Nominee David Strathairn, Tony Award Winner Jane Adams, and Television Star Ian Somerhalder, Laina went on to cut her teeth on several smaller projects including – ‘GLOBSTER’ (Producer), ‘UNWOUND’ (Co-Producer, 2nd AD), and ‘PROJECT OPEN VOICE’ (Production Manager). In between film work, Laina Co-Founded The Starving Artist, a non-profit artist collective where she managed and booked nationally touring musical acts for three years, and was the 2012 Director for Art Walk. In 2012, she was the lead Producer, Art Directer, and Music Supervisor for the feature film, ‘ONLY DAUGHTER,’ which premiered at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose California, won Audience Choice Award at New York No Limits Film Festival, Best Screenplay and Best Actress at Orlando Film Festival, and Best Film, Best Performance, Best Director and Filmmaker of the Year at New Hampshire Film Festival.

As a musician, Laina is also known as Americana songwriter and performer GirlandPiano, currently recording her third album. In 2013, she was a songwriter in residence for Image Journal’s Glen Workshop in Sante Fe New Mexico, where she has also workshopped with the band Over The Rhine for several years, and has been invited to participate as a writing captain for several Soul Kitchen songwriting workshops.

Over the past three years, Laina has delivered a world-class film festival with programming and filmmakers of note for the Monadnock International Film Festival, where she is Executive Director. She is currently in development of her next feature film, set to be produced Summer, 2015.
