ABOUT LAINA BARAKAT
Laina Barakat is an independent film Producer, committed to telling stories of grace and light, revealing themselves in dark and at times desperate worlds. After pursuing a liberal arts degree in Philosophy and Literature at Ave Maria University, she headed to New Hampshire, choosing an apprenticeship with Either/Or Films instead of the more traditional film-school route. Joining the company for the theatrical release and distribution of the their first feature film, ‘THE SENSATION OF SIGHT,’ starring Academy Award Nominee David Strathairn, Tony Award Winner Jane Adams, and Television Star Ian Somerhalder, Laina went on to cut her teeth on several smaller projects including – ‘GLOBSTER’ (Producer), ‘UNWOUND’ (Co-Producer, 2nd AD), and ‘PROJECT OPEN VOICE’ (Production Manager). In between film work, Laina Co-Founded The Starving Artist, a non-profit artist collective where she managed and booked nationally touring musical acts for three years, and was the 2012 Director for Art Walk. In 2012, she was the lead Producer, Art Directer, and Music Supervisor for the feature film, ‘ONLY DAUGHTER,’ which premiered at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose California, won Audience Choice Award at New York No Limits Film Festival, Best Screenplay and Best Actress at Orlando Film Festival, and Best Film, Best Performance, Best Director and Filmmaker of the Year at New Hampshire Film Festival.
As a musician, Laina is also known as Americana songwriter and performer GirlandPiano, currently recording her third album. In 2013, she was a songwriter in residence for Image Journal’s Glen Workshop in Sante Fe New Mexico, where she has also workshopped with the band Over The Rhine for several years, and has been invited to participate as a writing captain for several Soul Kitchen songwriting workshops.
Over the past three years, Laina has delivered a world-class film festival with programming and filmmakers of note for the Monadnock International Film Festival, where she is Executive Director. She is currently in development of her next feature film, set to be produced Summer, 2015.

ABOUT KEITH DOUGHTY
Keith Doughty is currently the Vice President of Sales for QuVIS Technologies, a digital cinema products company. Keith joined QuVIS in 2011 and has seen the company transition from a hardware manufacturer of high end mastering tools and playback equipment for the digital cinema industry, to that of a software company focused on reducing cost and complexity of DCP generation and playback. After growing up in South Africa and graduating from the Witwatersrand College of Mines he moved to the Boston area in 1986. Spending almost 30 years in Boston, Keith decided for a change in scenery and weather and moved to sunny Florida where the snow never falls. He is currently focused on extended the reach and assistance of QuVIS to independent producers and film schools.

ABOUT MAXIM JAGO
Maxim Jago is an infectiously energetic creative media technology speaker, author and trainer for conferences, events and organizations who want to communicate a techno-societal vision of the future. Maxim has authored over 30 media technology books and video courses and has trained many creative and technology innovators to excel in their field. He has also directed over 40 films, winning awards as a screen writer and director.
As a Tai Chi Ch’uan instructor and life-long student of philosophy, Maxim blends his coaching, corporate experience and quintessential British gentlemanly humour to present, discuss or solve complex challenges and act as an enabler for anyone with a curious learning disposition.

Rick Hohmann is a member of Hewlett-Packard’s workstation technical marketing group. He is responsible for working with HP’s partners and customers in the Media & Entertainment industry, supporting their use of HP Z desktop workstations, ZBook mobile workstations, the Z1 all-in-one workstations, and HP’s line of professional displays, including the DreamColor color-critical monitor.

ABOUT THE BRIGHT LIGHTS FILM SERIES
The Bright Lights screening and talk series is sponsored by the Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College. The mission of the series is to provide engaging visual media related events to the Emerson College community as well as the wider Boston community. These events range from screening of student, faculty and alumni work to the work of local, national and international artists as well as demonstrations, lectures, discussions and presentations by industry professionals. Bright Lights seeks to create an environment where visual media is not only viewed and appreciated but where a dialogue is fostered and a community of media makers, academics and aficionados are engaged and supported.
All events are free and open to the public. Events take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening during the semester with the exception of occasions when the college is closed (such as holidays, spring break, inclement weather).
