The film, shot on-location in New Hampshire, won Best Film, Short Drama (Over 20 minutes)
Boston, Mass., November 13, 2014—Dow Barlow Films and Bérubé Pictures are pleased to announce that The Chain won Best Film in the Short Drama Category (over 20 minutes) at the Somewhat North of Boston (S.N.O.B.) Film Festival this past weekend in Concord, NH.
The Chain is an independent film based on an original story by Tobias Wolff, a creative writing professor at Stanford University and author of This Boy’s Life, Old School, and The Night in Question. The Chain was filmed on location in Concord and Penacook, Derry, Londonderry and Manchester, New Hampshire.
“It was an honor just to be accepted into the festival. We were so thrilled that the premiere of The Chain would be in New Hampshire, where we shot the film,” said Noël Dow Barlow, who adapted the story and directed the film. “And to win the Best Film in the Short Drama Category at the festival was the icing on the cake,” Ms. Barlow said.
During the festival, 71 films were shown over 4 days, with audience votes determining the winners. The Chain was also one of four top marquee poster prize winners.

“S.N.O.B. Film Festival was exciting to be at and part of that excitement was meeting so many of the other filmmakers screening their films,” said Daniel Bérubé, producer and editor of The Chain. “S.N.O.B. provided an amazing opportunity to make new connections, talk about the art of filmmaking in New Hampshire, and see a lot of really great work,” Mr. Bérubé said.
“Writers tremble in their boots — or slippers — to see what filmmakers have done with their work. ‘The Chain’ seems to me a prime example of what can happen if everything goes right: they’ve made an intense, dynamic drama that brings a complex story to life without tricks or sentimentality. I honor the work of these filmmakers as they have honored mine,” states Tobias Wolff.
